We Only Get What We Give

Cue the 90's classic...

 But really. What are you giving to your followers? Like really giving. I mean for free with no strings attached?


It might seem counterintuitive but one of the best ways to do and get business in a digital world is to give stuff away for free.




People do business with people they trust and free content is kind of like trying it before you buy it. I find that some of the most successful people and brands on social media set themselves apart by being authentic and transparent. They are vulnerable and able to create a true connection with their followers and clients.


So what is this "free stuff" I'm talking about? Any valuable or educational content. It's certainly going to be different for each individual business but could look something like this:


  • If you're in the fitness industry, post videos of workouts.

  • If you're a personal cook, start a blog with some of your favorite recipes.

  • If you're a photographer, post a photo of your lighting set-up or show your followers how you edit a photo through a live video.

  • If you're a real-estate agent, write a quick step-by-step guide for first time home buyers.


Giving your followers this content for free shows them what it would be like to work with you, it establishes you as an expert/authority in your industry, and it's free marketing. On top of that, the more value you give to your followers, the more loyal they become to you and the more likely they are to share you content. Finally, one of the best reasons for any business to give away free content is because it actually CAN lead to more sales.




If someone is giving away free and awesome content, just imagine what you could be getting as a paying customer!
